Sand Sigh (2024). Silver-gelatin photographic papers exposed to lake water, sand, and detritus (dimensions variable); silver-gelatin photograph (20x24 inches) | The images in Sand Sigh were made during regular visits to Gibraltar Point Beach, along the southern edge of the Toronto Islands. Gibraltar Point is a delicate and dynamic landscape; the shoreline changes easily with the weather, revealing a variety of natural patterns and material relics. To make a record that faithfully expresses this fluidity, light-sensitive photographic papers have been pressed directly into the liminal space where the sand meets the water, exposing in place for the duration of a few deep breaths. Exhibited in the Vitrines at Gallery 44 Centre for Contemporary Photography (Toronto, CA), January 5 - February 3, 2024, and at Xpace Cultural Centre (Toronto, CA), September 13 - November 9, 2024. Made with the support of the Ontario Arts Council.
